Jigme thupten thrinley rinpoche

His Holiness 4th Do Drupchen Rinpoche Jigme Thupten Thrinley

His Holiness the 4th Do Drupchen Rinpoche Jigme Thupten Thrinley is a great living Nyingma Dzogchen (Great Perfection) master and the main lineage holder of the Longchen Nyingthik lineage. The first Do Drupchen, Jigme Thrinle Oser (1745-1821), was the heart disciple of Jigme Lingpa (1730-1798). The Third Do Drupchen Jigme Tenpe Nyima (1865-1926), was both a great scholar and a remarkable yogi.

His Holiness the 4th Do Drupchen was born in Gulok, very close to his main seat in Tibet. Like all the Do Drupchens, he comes directly from the Copper Colour Mountain and returns there upon death until his next reincarnation. This was indirectly indicated at the age of three, when after his enthronement, he spontaneously sang the Seven-Line Prayer to Guru Rinpoche and other invocations while smiling and laughing in the sweetest and most charming way. All in the crowd who witnessed the occasion were very moved.

His Holiness’ main seat is at Chorten Gonpa monastery, which he founded in the outskirts of Gangtok in Sikkim, India. His Holiness is also the spiritual guide for Sangchen Rabten Norbuling monastery in Kyimolung, Nubri.

Nubri Lama Chos Kyi Nyima Rinpoche

The Late Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche

The late Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche was the 11th lineage holder of Sangchen Rabten Norbuling monastery. Previously, the monastery only had yogis and yoginis who were in retreats most of their lives and had accomplished the high Buddhist tantric practices. Having stayed as a hidden yogi for many years, Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche emerged in 1982 to initiate the rebuilding of the monastery and established the monastic community of monks and nuns for the first time, under the advice of His Holiness the 4th Do Drupchen. Unfortunately, at the age of 54, Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche performed the illusory activity of passing away from this world temporarily.

Karma Migur Dorje Rinpoche

Karma Migur Dorje Rinpoche was born in 1971 in Kurtoe Rawabi valley, east Bhutan. As a child, Karma Rinpoche was very different from the rest of the other children. He was later recognized by Samdrup Tulku Rinpoche as the reincarnation of his previous life Dungtse Rinpoche, who was a great disciple of Tokden Shakya Shri (1853-1919), a Mahamudra and Dzogchen master, from Tibet. Samdrup Tulku Rinpoche gave him a grand enthronement ceremony witnessed by the local community in Bhutan. In the following year, Karma Rinpoche's parents took him to Bumthang in central Bhutan to visit His Holiness the 16th Karmapa. During this visit, His Holiness confirmed that Karma Rinpoche is indeed the reincarnation of Dungtse Rinpoche. His recognition as a tulku was also confirmed by His Holiness Do Drupchen, who becomes his root guru.

At the age of thirteen, Karma Rinpoche commenced his Dharma studies at Chorten Monastery in Sikkim under the guidance of His Holiness Do Drupchen. For more than twenty years, Karma Rinpoche had consistently engaged in Dharma studies through listening, contemplating and meditation at Chorten Monastery. Thereafter, His Holiness Do Drupchen requested Karma Rinpoche to be the guide for Sangchen Rabten Norbuling monastery. He now takes charge of all the ceremonies, Dharma studies and administration of the monastery.

Nuptul Tenpei Nyima Rinpoche

Nuptul Tenpei Nyima Rinpoche was born in Friday 25th December 1984 in Nubri, Nepal. Since young, Nuptul Rinpoche had shown distinct characteristics of his past life. At the age of seven, he was recognized by His Holiness Do Drupchen as the reincarnation of the great meditator, Khedrup Tenpei Gyaltsen. In the same year, Lama Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche who was a disciple of Khedrup Tenpei Gyaltsen, took Nuptul Rinpoche to Chorten Gonpa monastery in Gangtok, Sikkim where His Holiness Do Drupchen resides. It was His Holiness who gave Nuptul Rinpoche an enthronement ceremony and bestowed him with the name Tulku Jigme Thinley Tenpei Nyima. This marked the beginning of a spiritual master and disciple relationship. For the next 15 years, Nuptul Rinpoche studied under the guidance of His Holiness. It was from His Holiness that Nuptul Rinpoche had received most of the important empowerments of the Longchen Nyingthik and the Northern Treasures (Jangter Zogchen Gongpa Zangthal), which were the last teachings given by Guru Rinpoche before he left Tibet.

Nuptul Rinpoche deeply engages in Dharma studies through listening, contemplation and meditation. By the age of 19, he had completed the traditional three-year retreat in the monastery. Nuptul Rinpoche’s current activities focus on the rebuilding of the monks' quarters in the monastery. Besides travelling and sharing the knowledge of Buddha Dharma, Nuptul Rinpoche is currently studying in Hamsphire College in USA under the scholarship of Tenzin Gyatso Institute based in New York.

Tulku Jigme Chophel Gyatso Rinpoche

Venerable Tulku Jigme Chophel Gyatso Rinpoche was born in 1991 in Kyimolung, Nubri. In his previous life, Jigme Rinpoche was a great yogi who had fully accomplished the Buddhist practice. He was one of the great Dzogchen practitioners. The characteristics of Jigme Rinpoche's past life as an accomplished yogi were so distinct in his current life that he was soon recognized by His Holiness Do Drupchen and the late Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche as the reincarnation of the great yogi Yungdrung Dampa. At an early age of two or three years old, Jigme Rinpoche spoke about his past life to the villagers and convinced many that he was the reincarnation of a great master.

At the age of five, Jigme Rinpoche was invited by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche to Sangchen Rabten Norbuling monastery, where he began his Dharma studies. This included the Buddhist ritual practices under the direction and guidance of Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche and Karma Rinpoche. Jigme Rinpoche engaged intensely in Dharma studies through listening, contemplation and meditation. Currently, Jigme Rinpoche is in the traditional three-years retreat in the monastery.
